It’s the first week of the best month ever!! How have you guys spent your Octobers? Watch any good spooky films yet? Would love to hear about it in the comments.
This week I’m talking to Sophia from Sophiaaaxo. She’s a multi-genred blogger who talks about beauty, food, lifestyle, and travel. Her post on keeping organized as a blogger is one of my faves!
1) What has your mental health journey been like for you so far? You can tell us as much or as little as you like.
I have been really lucky in the sense that my mental health has been good in my past and present. I haven’t really had any bad issues regarding mental health, I do suffer with anxiety but to a certain degree I think everyone does. I have properly suffered from anxiety for about 4 years now, I don’t get it extremely bad but there have been periods where it has been really bad, other times I can sort of deal with it.
2) How do you keep yourself content day-to-day?
I really like this question. I think being content is really important. I like to surround myself with positive people and people that I love, so my family, my boyfriend and my friends. I try to keep as positive as I can, whether this be something so small as having quotes around my room or meeting up with friends on a regular basis. I think it is so important do to what you love and I think this has a really impact on being content every single day. I am doing so much that I love at the moment and this makes me feel so happy.
3) Looking back at times you’ve struggled, what would you tell your past self to help them out?
I think this depends on the situation in which I am struggling in, if it is due to exams and performances at university then I try to relax and not think too much into it. I work myself up so much and then in the end the result is mostly good and it’s like “why did I work myself up so much?” Talking to my mum makes me feel so much better because she always has amazing advice and she makes me feel so much better. When it comes to exam and essays I get anxiety, but I have also found ways in which I can deal with it.
If it is about anything else then I would turn to the people that I love. There is always someone out there that is willing to help, whether this be a family member, a partner, friends or even sometimes there are people online that are so kind. The more you tell people that you are “struggling” you will get help and everything will be easier as you aren’t going through it alone.
4) What are the things that make you happy, how do you pursue them, and what would you tell others who are trying to do what makes them happy?
I am genuinely quite a happy person. I try to do more of what makes me happy. I spend as much time with my family as I possibly can, even if this is only for 15 minutes a day. I love acting and performing and I am currently doing this at uni so I get enough of that. I love blogging and I try to edit and post as much as I can. Everything I blog about is my passion, for example I blog about baking but when I bake, I bake because I love to but also for others to read on my blog.
If you love something then try and incorporate it as much into your daily lives as you possibly can. Do more of what makes you happy!
5) How do you take care of yourself when you’re feeling down?
I love having pamper evenings, I love having a nice hot Lush bath and then coming out of the bath and doing a face mask. Then I will do my nighttime skincare routine and maybe paint my nails. Grab a tea, put some fairy lights on and watch Youtube, Netflix or even Harry Potter.
6) How has blogging contributed to your happiness?
Before I started blogging I wanted to blog for ages, but just never got ’round to doing it so when I started it was a happy time for me as I was doing something I had wanted to do for ages. I think blogging is such a great way just to get things out of your system, not so much like getting the anger out of your system but writing and putting any current energy you have into writing and challenging it through there. I have only been blogging for 9 months and I have had such great feedback and responses regarding my blog. I get people messaging me telling me that they love my blog and they love reading my blog and this makes me so happy.
7) What inspires you, both for blogging and in your personal life?
I don’t think anyone really inspired me to blog, but I have a a couple of bloggers that I love to read, such as Zoella, Tanya Burr, inthefrow and Fleur De Force. My mum inspires me everyday regarding my personal life, my mum is so great and such an inspiration. My mum inspires me to work very hard and to succeed In whatever I want to do.
8) How have your friends and family supported your mental health journey? What helped you and what did not?
Most of my close family have helped me with my anxiety, especially towards the times when It was really bad. I know I can always go to my family for advice and they will always help me, they have been my rock. My boyfriend helps me a lot, I know I can always talk to him about any of my worries and he will always make me feel 1000x better. Some of my friends have been really supportive towards my anxiety and others don’t know that I suffer with it. There are a couple of friends and I am sure that if they read this, they know I can go and talk to them about absolutely anything.
9) What are your goals for the future, both for yourself and your blog? How do you go about achieving these goals?
I would love to go into acting full time and be in theatre or tv and/or I would love to be blogging full time. I really want to get to 1,000 followers on my blog, I am currently on around 540 followers I think. I have had a lot of support since I started blogging and I have been so motivated to want to do well with my blog that I have put a lot of time into it. I really want to buy a car as I literally just passed my driving test a day ago.
10) What makes you feel most alive?
I love exploring and being adventurous and creating new memories so I would definitely say traveling to new places.
